JOHN ASEIN

John Asein has been Director-General of the Nigerian Copyright Commission (NCC) for most of the last three decades, he has strongly influenced the development of copyright legislation and policies in Nigeria, with focus on the creative sector. A legal practitioner, he holds a Master’s of intellectual property degree from the University of New Hampshire School of Law and has published several seminal works including; ‘Nigerian Copyright Law and Practice’; ‘Introduction to Nigerian Legal System’; ‘A Decade of Copyright Law in Nigeria’; and the chapter on Nigeria in Lewinski’s ‘Copyright throughout the World’. John Asein is a World Intellectual Property Organisation expert and in this capacity, he has been instrumental in developing copyright systems in Botswana, The Gambia and Liberia. On the international scene, he has also represented Nigeria’s interests in the formulation of most recent copyright treaties.
